Dom is a second-year college student at the University of Southern California studying Arts, Technology, and Innovation in the university’s Iovine and Young Academy. Originally from Canton, Ohio, he is passionate about climate issues in the Rust Belt region as well as creating sustainable products out of recycled items. RECYCLING SINGLE-USE PLASTIC
Dom started a project that both recycles plastic and communicates both the versatility and aesthetic of recycled plastic. He has created multiple pieces from a backpack to wallets and satchels made of recycled soft plastics such as bags. By utilizing his passion for design he is able to promote the multiple uses for plastic after its first life. OHIO TRAIN DERAILMENT
The Ohio train derailment occurred on February 3 which caused evacuations, hazardous chemical leaks, and controlled burning. As a result, Ohio is now seeing environmental repercussions, such as poor air quality throughout the town of East Palestine. During an interview, Dom discussed how his attention gravitated to this when it occurred, having lived in Ohio.
